It was Even Stevens at the 39th annual Josephian- Peterite cricket encounter in Melbourne but the Joe’s will claim bragging rights for their important win in the over 40’s game.
The Peterites easily accounted for the Josephians in the open age game played early in the morning but the Joe’s stormed back to level things in the over 40’s game which followed, as a carnival like atmosphere prevailed at the Endeavour Hills Cricket Club ground.
As is the norm when they compete, great camaraderie prevailed between the the rival schools and their families present. It also coincides with the real encounter in Sri Lanka where the real rivalry is played out around now, back home.
The day’s entertainment included live music and plenty of food and drinks as families and friends of the respective schools enjoyed a fun day out.
St. Joseph’s won the toss and put the Peterites in to bat in the open age game and they accumulated 147 for 7 in their allotted 25 overs. Sashen Fernando top scored for St. Peter’s with 47 and Sivan made 40 not out.
St. Joseph’s could only muster 126 all out in reply off 24 overs.
Sohan took 5 for 12 to lead St. Peter’s to victory.
In the over 40’s game St Peter’s batted first and made 165 for 4 in 20 overs. Malin Silva made 55 not out.
St Joseph’s knocked off the required target with 6 balls to spare on the back of unbeaten half centuries from Glenn Perera and Monto Perera.

Best Batter: Malin Silva.
Best Fielder: Glenn Perera.
Man-of-the-match: Malin Silva.
In the ladies game that concluded the days events St. Bridget’s beat Holy Family Convent Bambalalitiya.
