HEROES of our Nation – AVM SAMPATH Thuiya and late Lt Colonel Lalith Jayasinghe – By  Admiral Ravi Wijegunaratne ( Retired)

Greatest MI-24 helicopter gunship pilot I knew-Wing Commander SAMPATH Thuiyakontha , who was Mission Commander  on daring Airforce mission to recover Lalith’s body and injured team members of Army Long Range Recce Patrol ( LRRP) from enemy held area 16 years ago. He has done numerous missions in support of SLN and so many lives of our SBS members were saved with his helicopter gunship support in  Northern seas and killali lagoon when we were fighting LTTE small boats, including Deadly Sea Tiger suicide boats. SAMPATH Thiya is our Secretary Defense now !We salute  you from bottom of our hearts !

Please watch below video full

Lt Col Lalith Jayasinghe’s funeral had on 1st December 2008. His daughter, who never saw her beloved father is 16 years old now.  Very few remember these heroes now. WE LIVE IN PEACE TODAY THANKS TO THEIR BRAVERY!

Regards,

 Admiral Ravi Wijegunaratne ( Retired)

   Former CO SBS
