Obituary-Mr Errol De Silva

Errol De Silva-eLanka

In loving memory of our dear Dada, and Papa, Errol De Silva. Born April 1939 and sadly passed away on December 12, 2024.

Loving father to Sabrina (Ross) and Ewan (Cathy). Doting and devoted grandfather to Jessica, Brendan and Leah. He is also survived by his sister, Angeline Pereira, who lives in Australia.

Errol was born in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) but moved to Canada in 1974 with his beloved wife Helene and 2 children to give them a better life and better opportunities.

He was a well-respected athlete who represented St Peter’s College in Discus and Javelin. Part of the 1957 team noted as one of the best ever. He won the Public Schools Championships in Javelin Throw and represented Ceylon in the Asia Games in Discus and Javelin

He made Toronto his home, working at the Royal Bank of Canada for over 20 years retiring in 2000.

Dad loved to play badminton, golf, ride his bike, travel the world with mom to Hawaii, France, Australia, and Singapore. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.  Nothing was out of the question for them. He and mom loved taking their grandchildren to the dollar store and letting them buy whatever they wanted. It’s a favourite memory of theirs. He loved to garden both indoors and out. Orchids, bonsai plants, roses.

A fanatic about Elvis, George Jones, Jim Reeves and Marty Robbins, he loved blasting their music at maximum volume. His love of country music took us on many trips to Graceland and Nashville.

He had many hobbies, such as collecting records and Canadian stamps. Over the years, he kept many types of tropical fish and rare species, always looking for the elusive “true” black piranha.

With great thanks for all you did for us and times together.

He will live in our hearts always and will be greatly missed.

It’s not goodbye, it’s till we meet again
