OBU Victoria to Support St Benedict's College in its STEM Initiative 2

Melbourne, Australia – July 11, 2023 – St Benedict’s College (Colombo, Sri Lanka) Strategic and Education committees, in conjunction with the esteemed Rev Bro Director – Dr Pubudu Rajapaksha, are proud to announce a renewed emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning in the College curriculum. This strategic decision aims to equip students with the essential skills necessary to thrive as successful 21st-century citizens. To support this initiative, the College Leadership team has devised a comprehensive plan to establish a state-of-the-art STEM centre.

We are delighted to announce that OBU Victoria has chosen to endorse and actively support the St Benedict’s STEM project. The OBU Victoria kicked off the STEM fundraiser during the recent St Benedict’s Feast Day celebrations held in Melbourne. The presence of Mr Ranjith Dediwalage, an eminent scholar on STEM and an esteemed old boy of St Benedict’s graced the event. Mr Dediwalage introduced the STEM program to over 110 guests, highlighting the importance of STEM education in fostering innovation and preparing future leaders.

During the ceremony, Dr Sachitra Patabadige, a valued member of the OBU Committee, and his wife had the honour of presenting a programmable education robot to Mr Dediwalage. This generous donation symbolises the commitment and support of OBU Victoria to the St Benedict’s STEM project. In addition, the Old Boys in attendance demonstrated their unwavering dedication by pledging to donate six more robots, supplementing the four already gifted by Dr Patabadige.
