Sri Ananda English Medium Dhamma School Students Celebrate Elders’ and Children’s Day at Mallawapitiya Elders’ Home

Students of Sri Ananda English Medium Dhamma School in Kurunegala, affiliated with Maliyadeva Vidyaraksha Pirivena and Lyceum International School, gathered to celebrate a day filled with meaning and compassion as they observed Elders’ Day and Children’s Day at the Mallawapitiya Elders’ Home on the 1st of October.

Sri Ananda English Medium Dhamma School is renowned for its commitment to provide innovative and creative education plans that incorporate the teachings of Gautama Buddha’s vision into real-life learning experiences. As part of their ongoing efforts to instill these values in their students, grade 4 to 10 students, along with the entire dhamma school community, organized a special programme at the Mallawapitiya Elders’ Home.

The day was nothing short of meaningful as students engaged in a variety of activities aimed at bringing joy and happiness to the residents of the home. Additionally, the students joined forces with children to share their talents and life stories, creating a heartwarming and memorable session.

In a show of community support, health professionals from the dhamma school parents’ community volunteered their time to check the health conditions of the elderly residents and offered guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This gesture reflects the school’s dedication to holistic education, encompassing not only academic knowledge but also the well-being of the community.

The students also participated in a tea ceremony and shared thoughtful gifts with the elderly residents, symbolizing their respect and appreciation for the wisdom and experience that the elders possess.

The additional district secretary of Kurunegala (Development) Mr. Aruna Shantha Priyankara graced this programme and expressed his appreciation for Sri Ananda Dhamma School, the pioneering English medium dhamma school in Kurunegala, Shashanarakshaka Balamandalaya. The divisional secretary commended the dhamma school for its commitment to conducting meaningful and innovative lesson plans that nurture a sense of compassion and community engagement among the students, in alignment with Gautama Buddha’s vision.

Sri Ananda English Medium Dhamma School, Kurunegala, continues to set an inspiring example by emphasizing not only academic excellence but also the importance of empathy, respect for elders, and nurturing the future generation’s values and character. This celebration of Elders’ Day and Children’s Day at the Mallawapitiya Elders’ Home is a testament to their dedication to create well-rounded and compassionate individuals.
