SUNDAY CHOICE – “Who am I” – by Charles Schokman

From a biblical perspective, our identities and self-worth are rooted in the relationships we have with God, with our fellow humans, and with God’s creation. These relationships are not governed by the rules of competition but are governed by God’s justice, mercy, peace, and love.

1 Corinthians 6:17 — I am united with the Lord, and I am one with Him in spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 — I have been bought with a price, and I belong to God. 1 Corinthians 12:27 — I am a member of Christ’s body. Ephesians 1:3-8 — I have been chosen by God and adopted as His child.

Our identity in Christ is a function of our relationship with Him. Knowing our authority and dominion in Christ Jesus makes us aware of whom we are in Him. Embracing the authority that is in Jesus reveals to us what our true identity is in Him. Our identity in Christ is a function of our relationship with Him.

For a truthful look at who we are, we must look into the Bible. We are told to use God’s Word as a mirror to truly understand ourselves—how we are doing and where we need to grow (James 1:22-25). God commands His people to examine themselves and their actions (1 Corinthians 11:28; 2 Corinthians 13:5; Galatians 6:4).

Who am I in the eyes of God?– I am the righteousness of God—I have right standing with Him—in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). My body is a temple of the Holy Spirit; I belong to Him (1 Corinthians 6:19). I am the head and not the tail, and I only go up and not down in life as I trust and obey God (Deuteronomy 28:13).

Then in the light of Christ’s crucifixion—I ask myself this question, Who am I?

Listen and meditate.
