The Big Water Map of Sri Lanka
This colorful map shows all the rivers and streams in Sri Lanka! It’s like a watery puzzle with 103 pieces…
The blue lines are the rivers themselves, and the light green patches show the land areas where all the rainwater flows into one particular river system – we call these “river basins.” Think of it like a sink; all the water goes down the same drain! Sri Lanka has lots of these “sinks,” each feeding a different river.
Sri Lanka’s rivers are super important. They give water for drinking, growing food, and for all the animals and plants to live. Many of the rivers start high up in the central mountains, especially around a famous peak called Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak).
Imagine all the little streams flowing down from the mountains like tiny roads joining together to form bigger rivers! Some of the major river basin areas include where the Mahaweli, Kelani, Kalu, and Walawe rivers flow.
Here’s another reason to why Sri Lanka can be called a “Small Miracle” in the world!
