The Crown Receives the Eagle – By Dr Harold Gunatillake

British perspective—reflecting the quiet dignity, historical weight, and subtle diplomacy of King Charles and the UK during President Trump’s visit.

We watched him land with roaring might, A gilded crest in morning light, The eagle’s wings, though far from home, Cast shadows on our palace dome.

The guards stood tall in scarlet thread, While thoughts of empire softly spread, For kings have met with many men—

Some bold, some brash, some now and then. Charles, with time etched in his gaze, Received the guest with tempered praise, A handshake firm, a nod refined, The past and present are intertwined.

He spoke of trees and climate’s toll, Of duty’s weight and sovereign role, While Trump, with fervour, praised the land, And offered deals with an outstretched hand.

The tea was poured, the silver gleamed, Yet not all was as it seemed— For Britain, though polite and grand, Still guards its soul with a steady hand.

We’ve danced with empires, sailed through wars, Held court with legends, opened doors— But through it all, we’ve learned to see The art of quiet diplomacy.

So let the cameras flash and fade, Let headlines spin and truths evade— The crown remains, the realm endures, With grace, that time alone ensures.

“A Smile Between Speeches”

While Charles spoke of crown and creed, And history’s slow, majestic speed,

The Princess turned with practised grace, A smile lit up her royal face. Trump caught the glance, returned the beam— A flash between the formal theme.

No words exchanged, no lines rehearsed, Just politics in charm dispersed.

End Enjoy
