“THE NASHVILLE JAM” – by Des Kelly
This is the ideal manner of proving what MUSIC CAN DO. Many years ago, a young lady presented me with a Cassette-Tape of a group calling themselves The Mavericks. I thanked her, but put the tape on-hold, as I didn’t have enough time to listen to the stack of music I had stored
already, but then she rang me to find out IF I had listened to her tape, so I did apologise and then decided to listen to the Mavericks in her company, and invited her to my little music studio at the rear of my home. She accepted my invitation and, already being a big fan of the Mavericks, did not waste too much time in coming down. So this was it. The Mavericks music filled my little room & proved beyond a doubt that one needn’t have elaborate sheets of Musical Chords with whih to produce a good song. Including my title-song, All you ever do is bring me down, PLUS MANY MORE, sounded just great ALTHOUGH they consisted of ONLY TWO (2) CHORDS of any Key you preferred.
WHY did they sound great ??, the answer was quite simple. It was the method in which they were played, mostly in 2 part harmony, sounding even better during the musical interlude with the “BRASS” blowing out their parts in harmony too hard to resist.
If you then went further, as I did, and watched the Mavericks on your television set-up, it showed something else. They were animated to the extent that they always looked as though they/were ENJOYING themselves thoroughly, leaving their audiences the same way.
Their leader Raul Malo is an excellent vocalist.
At the same time, he leads in entertaining as well. I did enjoy the Mavericks and this pleased the young lady as well.
This particular version of the Mavericks is totally different and yet is a pleasure to watch. Please enjoy it on e’Lanka.
