Vision Care emphasizes its commitment to women’s eyecare health on International Women’s Day

6thMarch 2023, Colombo: Vision Care, Sri Lanka’s largest vision and eye wear solutions provider, has underscored its commitment towards women’s eyecare health by highlighting the importance of proper eyecare among Sri Lankan women and providing free eye testing to all females from 6th to 15th March at all Vision Care branches islandwide.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #EmbraceEquity which aims to encourage people to imagine an equitable society where women and men are treated equally, without bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. One of its missions is to empower women so that they are able to be in a position of power to make informed decisions about their health.

Most women’s vision problems are age-related, such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Dry eye syndrome is more common in women after menopause, affecting those who are middle-aged and older. In order to prevent potential vision loss, all women, especially those who are 40 and older, should meet an eyecare professional and get a dilated eye examand continue to do so annually. One of the factors is an eye condition known as Presbyopia, which usually occurs around the age of 40, where your eye slowly loses the ability to focus quickly on objects that are near.

On the home front, accidents that can potentially injure your eyes may happen every day but 90% of them are preventable. Since most eye injuries take place at home, a simple step such as wearing eye protection when using tools and dangerous chemicals can keep your eyes safe. In today’s world, women are present in nearly all industries leading to increased online working and screen time. While working on a computer, always remember to blink and look away from the screen every few minutes. Try to give your eyes a rest by stepping away from your computer for a few minutes every hour.

Vision Care General Manager Harsha Maduranga stated, “This year’s International Women’s Day is #EmbraceEquity and at Vision Care we are working towards creating a society where women have equal opportunities in whatever they do, especially when it comes to their health. This is why we are celebrating all women of Sri Lanka by giving them the opportunity to focus on their eye health through free eye tests at all Vision Care branches from 6th to 15th March. With our large branch network spread across the country, this gives ample time for thousands of women to come in and get their eyes checked.”

While adhering to simple eyecare steps every day, also get your eyes checked regularly by a professional who uses the latest technology. Vision Care offers high quality eye testing, spectacles, computer glasses, sunglasses, prescription and cosmetic contact lenses as well as hearing testing and hearing aids. It has also pioneered the introduction of the best range of eyewear brands recognised globally to the local market. Vision Care customers are able to choose from a wide array of top global brands for frames and sunglasses.
