United States and Sri Lanka Celebrate Commissioning of SLNS Samudravijaya Following Historic Voyage from Baltimore


Formerly the United States Coast Guard Cutter Decisive, SLNS Samudravijaya is the fourth former U.S. Coast Guard cutter transferred to the Sri Lanka Navy through the U.S. Excess Defense Articles Program. Decisive was built at the U.S. Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, Maryland, and was also overhauled there in preparation for its transfer to Sri Lanka. The vessel will enhance Sri Lanka’s ability to patrol its waters, combat illegal fishing and maritime narcotics trafficking, conduct search and rescue operations, respond to humanitarian emergencies, and help safeguard one of the world’s most important maritime crossroads.
US-gifted Ten TH-57 ‘Sea Ranger’ helicopters arrive in Sri Lanka

Ten TH-57 ‘Sea Ranger’ multi-role helicopters granted by the United States Government to the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) have arrived in Sri Lanka, marking a significant milestone in the long-standing defence partnership between the two countries. According to the SLAF, the helicopters were transported to Sri Lanka by sea and are currently undergoing configuration and technical preparation work at SLAF Base Ratmalana. Following inspections, acceptance procedures, and test flights, the aircraft will be formally inducted into service.

Young golfer Jaeden Sathasivam impresses against Asia’s best

Sri Lanka’s Jaeden Sathasivam produced the best performance among the island’s young golfers as he finished sixth after two rounds of the Mandiri Ciputra Golfpreneur Junior World Championship 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Competing in the Boys Development-C Division, Jaeden returned rounds of 83 and 83 for a two-round total of 166, finishing 22-over-par and holding sixth place in a strong international field featuring players from Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Laos.

Also recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours, is NSW Health Pathology immunologist, Professor Suran Fernando, who has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to medicine in the field of immunology. Professor Suran Fernando, immunologist at the Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergy Royal North Shore Hospital. As the inaugural Head of Clinical Immunology and Allergy at Royal North Shorspital, Professor Fernando has helped build and shape services that directly improve patient care for people living with complex immune conditions including autoimmune diseases, immunodeficiencies, and drug allergies.

Dimal Arandara has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of SriLankan Airlines Limited with immediate effect. An internal communiqué circulated within the national carrier confirmed that the top-level appointment was made with the direct concurrence of the President. Obituaries – Sad News
Reverend Fr. Xystus Nicholas Fernando Kurukulasuriya, of the Archdiocese of Colombo, expired on June 8th 2026. He is the son of the late Austin Joseph Fernando Kurukulasuriya and late Anna Mary Ethrlreda Leema Kurukulasuriya. The mortal remain of Rev. Fr. Xystus Kurukulasuriya was brought to the Archbishop’s House Chapel on June 9th. Burial was on June 10th. at the General Cemetery, Negombo.
