A SINGING SENSATION IN THE MAKING –THANURI MADURIYA – By Sunil Thenabadu

THANURI MADURIYA Is a student following a Bsc (Hons) Geographical information science degree at the University of Peradeniya is the only child of two distinguished music teachers in prominent boys and girls schools in Matara. Thanuri obviously has had hereditary affiliations to music via her parental duo who are musicians themselves .She is an distinguished old girl of famous Sujatha Vidyalaya in Matara where she had excelled in her vocals from her younger days. Though she was involved in many extra curricular activities and Music at school she did concentrate on her academic career having been selected to the University of Peradeniya with ease.

In her young career she has achieved a substantial amount of accolades having sung at the “Battles’ ,popular ‘Voice’ musical program where for her singing expertise she was selected to be trained under famous vocalist Shashika Nissansala.At this event she was acclaimed by judges v.i.z. Bathiya, Santhush, Kasun Kalhara and Umariya all top rated artistes in Sri Lanka .This even was a feather to a cap which is been decorated at intervals. She has sung successfully several cover songs v.i.z. ‘Arumasi Adare’ a duet of Dumal Warnakulasuriya and Kavindya Adhikari.

At a recent music reality gruelling singing competition Thanuri impressed the entire panel of adjudicators having songs of famous artistes like Indika Upamali ( Sanda Pahan Reye) Nirosha Virajini ( Re Dolos Peye) Kanchana Anuradha ( Udurawee -which has a blend of western trace) for which she received many tributes like for her singing disposition of ‘Sanda Pahan Reye’ she was awarded bonus marks by the panel judges Keethi Pasquel and Samitha Mudunkotuwa.
