Starting her acting career at the tender age of 17, starring in a major role in Siri Gunasinghe’s Sath Samudura, the lady known as the “Golden Star of Sinhala Cinerma” has won 28 awards in her career spanning over 50 years.
According to sources, publishing a school magazine with her friend, she wanted to be a journalist. Seeing an advertisement
for roles in Sath Samudura, she wanted to meet the author, but ended with a leading role as “Soma”. Since then she has acted in over 60+ films/
The evening comprising felicitation and a question and answer session with the actress, eneded with a dinner where the fans could get photographs with her. The main feature of course was the screening of the 1983 movie “Dadayama” which is considered one of her hallmark roles as “Ranmali”.
The well attended function was organised by Ramya Tennekoon and Chandrakanthi Wickramasinghe supported by a few Sri Lankan small businesses in Brisbane.
