ACBT Kart Fight Championship 2024 Delivers High-Octane Action at SpeedBay Amidst Rainy Weather!

The fourth and final round of the ACBT Kart Fight Championship 2024, by David Pieris Racing & Leisure (Private) Limited in conjunction with Ceylon Motor Sports Club and Motor Racing Association, concluded successfully at SpeedBay, Bandaragama, on Saturday, August 17. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the event showcased the exceptional talent and determination of Sri Lankan drivers across twelve competitive classes.

The championship winners across various categories include Chenaya Attanayaka, who took the title in the Ladies Open, and Jayden Jayawardana, who emerged victorious in the Cadet category. Kaveen Rajapaksa claimed the Junior title, while Kevan Samarajiwa secured the Senior Intermediate championship. Kevan won the title in the most competitive class, triumphing over 39 drivers across four challenging rounds, each with 24 participants, making it a hard-fought victory.

The Senior Advanced category was won by Melon Azeez, and Shakthi Gunasekara triumphed in the Master division. Saman Perera led the Veteran category, with Tehan Amarasiri winning the IAME X30 – Cadet title.

Seshaan Gunasekera was a dual winner, claiming both the IAME X30 – Open and Yamaha KT100 – 120 KG titles. Thinuka Wijerathne took first place in the Yamaha KT100 – 140 KG category, and Inuk Maddumarachchi rounded out the winners by securing the Yamaha KT100 – 155 KG championship. A notable highlight of the championship was the debut of multiple drivers in the faster two-stroke category.

“Kart Fight Championship was a pivotal moment for Sri Lankan motorsport,” stated Eshan Pieris, Chairman of David Pieris Racing & Leisure. “All racers showcased exceptional skill and resilience, overcoming challenging wet conditions to deliver a thrilling competition. The event, in partnership with ACBT, was dedicated to fostering a vibrant motorsports culture and nurturing future talent, which was clearly witnessed at Saturday’s races.”

The ever-changing weather conditions presented a formidable challenge for participants at the 4th round of the ACBT Kart Fight Championship. With rain intermittently affecting the track, drivers and teams had to swiftly adapt to the changing conditions. The pit crews demonstrated exceptional skill and efficiency in ensuring that the karts were equipped with the correct tires, while the marshals and stewards worked tirelessly to maintain safety on the challenging track.

The ACBT Kart Fight Championship catered to drivers of all ages and experience levels, with dedicated categories for Ladies, Cadets, Juniors, Seniors, Masters, and Veterans. The event also included support races in the IAME X30 Cadet, IAME X30 Open, and Yamaha KT100 classes. In line with the FIA Women in Motorsport initiative, the championship aimed to enhance the visibility of female drivers and encourage greater participation in all categories.

The ACBT Kart Fight Championship 2024 Round 4 was successfully hosted at SpeedBay, Bandaragama, under the management of David Pieris Racing & Leisure (Private) Limited, in partnership with ACBT, Australian College of Business & Technology, as the title partner. Special thanks to the unwavering dedication of all marshals and stewards involved in the event via the Ceylon Motor Sports Club and the Motor Racing Association.
