Mass held at Resurrection church Keysborough (Melbourne) – 26th April 2019 – Photo thanks to Trevine Rodrigo A massive gathering showed up to express their solidarity to Sri Lankan parishioners at Resurrection church Keysborough in the wake of the shocking events on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka. Fr. Brian Collins led a moving service which was wonderfully coordinated by the Parish council led by Adrian Dunuwille, Philomena Mather , Vicky Russell, Hedy and their tireless team. Federal Labor MP’s, Victorian MP’s and Dandenong Councillors attended the service in a show of support and to offer their condolences to the grieving Sri Lankan community in Melbourne. Sri Lankan Priest Fr. Hilarion Fernando flew in from several services in Sydney to deliver a message of hope for the victims in Sinhalese.       ...

Hong Kong had much to live up to its self-anointed claim as Asia’s and put on wow with its high quality facilities. The 40,000 capacity Hong Kong Stadium was sold out with supporters of 28 teams vying for the coveted title. Australians were there in their thousands, but apart from Hong Kong supporters, Fiji had the largest and loudest contingent. The competition was fast and furious, with quick changeovers and entertainment to boot. Look-alike entertainers performed the music of Queen, Mick Jagger, the Beatles, Amy Winehouse and more. Cricket game between Sri Lanka Lions Sports Club & Instant Cricketers for the “Non Benders” shield – photos & report are by Jon Karu The annual cricket game between Sri Lanka Lions Sports Club & Instant Cricketers for the “Non Benders” shield, which was postponed in 2018, was finally played on Sunday 24th February 2019 at Ollie Webb Reserve, Merrylands, NSW. The game was played under the usual special rules of 35 overs per team of 13 players but only 11 were allowed to field at any one time, maximum of only five (5) overs per bowler and a Maximum of 30 runs per batsmen. The World Health Organisation has indicated that CKD has affected over 15% of rural Sri Lanka. This number is ever increasing with extremely limited access to medical attention, medication and or equipment necessary to treat and manage the disease. There is a desperate need to create awareness of the suffering of CKD patients. Basic needs such as transport and sundry expenses in relation to attending hospital or clinics and the need to have dialysis kits, injections and other medication made freely available to sufferers of the disease. The guest speaker Mr Thiru Arumugam, who kindly agreed to step in when the advertised speaker was unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances, chose to talk on Deekirikevage Saradial, better known as the hero of the Utuwan mountain.
