Council seeking Hindi speaker for multicultural communications group

Following a successful first term, Hume City Council’s Multicultural Communications Advisory Group will continue their work as community advocates in  .

This year, Hume City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from a Hindi speaking Hume resident to join the Multicultural Communications Advisory Group for a new 12-month term.

The Multicultural Communications Advisory Group first came together in 2024 to work closely with Council to guide us on how to communicate effectively with Hume’s diverse community groups.

The Group’s 11 members represented the Arabic, Assyrian, Farsi, Greek, Italian, Mandarin, Nepali, Punjabi, Turkish, Urdu and Vietnamese language communities, which were identified as the groups that would benefit most from communications support.

In their first term the group advised on communications for Council’s green bin roll out, community Hume Highlight magazine, illegal dumping campaign, in-language web pages, social media and other projects that helped create more effective diverse communication.

Locals that speak and read Hindi fluently will be considered to join the group, with an annual fee paid to those who participate.

Along with the 11 members returning in 2025, our Hindi  speaking advisor will advocate for the needs and wants of their community, making sure they can access Council services, information, programs, and events.

This initiative supports Hume City Council’s commitment to providing fair and equal access to Council services for  all people living and working in Hume.

Expressions of Interest for the Hindi support opportunity are open until 5pm on 11 July.

The next term of the Multicultural Communications Advisory Group will begin in August.

If you’re passionate about supporting your community, express your interest at hume.vic.gov.au/MCAG-2025.
