Fashion in Focus – All That Is Old Makes A Come Back

By Sharmila Jayasinghe Niriella

Fashion-in-Focus

Suddenly Vintage is everywhere! On television, in our homes and even stealing a march on the runway are all things retro and vintage. From Polaroids to Pokemon even to home furnishing, its on – All that is old is making a come back! The biggest impact of the comeback is seen in the fashion industry. Fashonistas everywhere are caught up in this latest, hottest trend of sporting that old-fashioned glamour look. From the large bouncy curls to her “to die for” accessories, true devotee of all things vintage, the burlesque dancer, Dita Von Teesse to the shocking red lipstick and the retro clothes of Katy Perry in pretty much every colour of the rainbow and beyond to Anne Hathaway’s 50’s style rock and roll jeans to the entire wardrobe of Mad Men’s female cast, and on to the flouncy skirts and wide belts of Sara Jessica Parker in Sex in the City, modern day celebrities are screaming out that old indeed is gold and women around the world are readily embracing it.

Polka dots, Lace, pearls, geometric designs, full skirts, neck scarves and those figure flattering dresses the epitome of femininity and not to mention that little bit more fabric on the bikini front, Vintage truly is back and creating a big impact on the fashion scene today. The retro up-dos , the upward flick of the thick black eyeliner and extra volume in eye lashes, all these are back and looks like here to stay!

Though typically vintage clothes are that which were created in the past era from the 20s to the 80s they done necessarily have to be finds from a thrift shop or hand me downs. Though there is absolutely no harm in finding a diamond in the rough when you browse through the racks of a thrift shop or an old aunty’s wardrobe, fashion today is so confident of the big come back that there are many who boldly venturing into creating fashion labels that are dedicated only on showcasing that retro look. Those who love the look most surely would have and would be following the collections put out by such clothing labels as Allanah Hill, Review, Kitten de Amour, Leona Edleston, not to mention many of those online stores that offer to create “the look”. Without a doubt those aforementioned labels and others that have ventured into the retro era have got the concept right. They create that vintage inspired look with a dash of the modern so as to prevent us fashion followers from stepping out as if you have ransacked our grandma’s’ closet and found something to wear.

The way these clothes accentuated ones figure, the romance the touch of lace and the pearls create and the overall clean, classy look is the attraction and most certainly is the reason why many women today are keenly embracing the new yet those old trends that are sweeping the word by storm.
