MEDIA RELEASE: Celebrate spring with Liverpool City Council’s garden competition

Liverpool City Council

Everything’s coming up roses – and any other plant you care to name – in this year’s Liverpool City Council’s garden competition.

Building on the momentum of last year successes, this year’s competition will have extended categories and carry total prizemoney of $5000.

“It’s a great chance for Liverpool gardeners to show off the plants, shrubs and gardens they work so hard on,” said Liverpool mayor Ned Mannoun.

“It’s our way of continuing to encourage the wider beautification of Liverpool through gardens.

“Our area will take as much greenery as it can get.”

This year’s competition has been expanded to eight categories which will be judged by a panel of experienced horticulturalists.

Prizemoney will be distributed over eight categories:

  • Best front garden
  • Best back garden
  • Best overall garden/property
  • Best courtyard/ enclosed/entrance way
  • Best balcony
  • Best street
  • Best school garden
  • Best themed garden

The best school garden is ideal for students who grow flowers and vegetables outside their classrooms.

The prize for best street is a chance for neighbours to co-ordinate their efforts into one mighty display of colour.

The competition will run from 1 September to 8 November.
