Message on the Occasion of the 76th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka

Source : Qld Sri Lankan Newsletter – Dæhæna – February 2024

It is with much pleasure that I convey my warm greetings to all Sri Lankans residing in Australia, on the occasion of the 76th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka.

As we mark this important occasion, we pay homage not only to those who fought to achieve independence but also to those who in the recent traumatic past sacrificed their lives to safeguard our country. While we reflect on the true value of Independence, we are amidst a challenging and decisive juncture. The government of Sri Lanka is actively working towards strengthening democracy, promoting reconciliation and meaningfully moving the country towards greater economic progress and maintaining peace and stability for the prosperity of Sri Lanka and the people.

It is an opportune time for all of us whether we live in Sri Lanka or overseas to contribute towards this endeavour for a better tomorrow for our motherland.

It is important to note the close cooperation and cordial bilateral relations maintained between Sri Lanka and Australia. In this journey towards the task of nation building, the government of Sri Lanka is committed to make Sri Lanka a strong and prosperous nation in the region and the world.
