Nourishing Foods That Can Help Lower Blood Sugar Levels – By Dr Harold Gunatillake

Harold-Gunethilake

I received a request from a reader, Antonio, who asked for the truth about raw jackfruit flour and its effects on lowering blood sugar. Here is the relevant link he forwarded.

In an article, Dr. Mohan, Chairman of Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre in Chennai, explains that jackfruit has a glycemic index that is friendly for those with diabetes. He notes that the fibre and protein in jackfruit slow digestion, gradually releasing glucose from food into the intestinal tract. This process helps to stabilise blood glucose levels. Furthermore, the fibre and protein in jackfruit promote a sense of fullness, which can prevent overeating and contribute to healthy weight management.

Does jackfruit flour have the same effect on lowering blood sugar?

My reference confirms that it is a yes.

Jack fruit contains flavonoid antioxidants associated with a lower risk of chronic disease.

Jack fruit is also high in resistant starch which functions like soluble fibre and adds bulk to your food.

Jackfruit is also a good source of potassium, magnesium, copper, manganese, thiamine, vitamin E, and biotin.

However, jackfruit can trigger inflammatory reactions and discomfort in some people, especially those allergic to birch pollen. People with blood coagulation issues or kidney issues should also avoid jackfruit.

So should you use green jackfruit flour for diabetes?

With solid credentials, this green jackfruit flour seems like a miracle remedy.

In the early stages of diabetes (Spring diabetes) or prediabetes, it is beneficial to explore non-therapeutic supplements. Mature diabetics must rely on therapeutics or Western medications that are researched and proven.

Healthline mentions that 17 Foods lower blood sugar, including Broccoli, Seafood, Pumpkin, Nuts, Okra, Flaxseed, Beans, Fermented foods, Chia seeds, Kale, Berries, Avocados, Oats, Citrus, Kefir, Eggs, and Apples.

If you have prediabetes or diabetes or want to lower your risk of developing these conditions, incorporating the foods mentioned above into a healthy diet can help reduce your blood sugar levels. However, you may still need to take medication to manage your blood sugar effectively.

Fenugreek

According to reviews, fenugreek may help manage diabetes. Studies suggest that it can significantly lower fasting blood glucose levels and HbA1c (which indicates long-term blood sugar control) while also improving lipid profiles in individuals with type 2 diabetes. However, further research is necessary to confirm its effectiveness and determine the optimal dosage.

  • Ayurvedic Natural Remedies Babul (Acacia nilotica)

The bark is steeped in two cups of water for 12 hours: strain and drink the liquid.

  • Jambol (Eugenia jambolana)

  • Cotton seed (Gossypium herbaceum Crush seeds boiled in water, strain and drink
  • Dandelion Taraxacum officinale

Shredded roots boil in water, strain and drink.

Many foods that help lower diabetes have a low glycemic index and are high in fibre, which slows the absorption of sugars in the gut. Some of these foods contain resistant starch, which is not digested.
