Reading an article by someone who seemed quite upset about the topic of ‘confession’ made me feel a bit unsettled, especially since it appeared to be written by our esteemed Dr Harold, a beloved figure who was also married to the wonderful Irangani. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing this remarkable doctor and his late wife for over 40 years. They are a warm, trustworthy, and truly lovable couple who have earned the admiration of the Sri Lankan community here in Australia and across many parts of the world. This admiration is primarily thanks to his insightful writings on Sri Lankan politics, history, current global issues, and, most especially, health.

When I was managing the Waldorf hotel in Pennant Hills, he used to organise public meetings and give regular talks on health topics. His events were very well-liked, often attracting large crowds, and I genuinely enjoyed catering for these gatherings.

His dedication to community service is a shining example for all of us. A few years ago, he was honoured with the Order of Australia Medal by the government, a testament to his selfless contributions.
Despite his permanent retirement in Sri Lanka, Dr Harold’s heart still resides in Sydney. He maintains a keen interest in the social activities and events happening here and remains connected with many friends and colleagues, demonstrating his enduring commitment to the community.
I remember he served as the President of the Sri Lanka Association twice during the nineteen eighties, and he was the dedicated editor of the association newsletter, which was issued monthly for many years.
He is also a proud life member of the Sinhalese Cultural Forum, the Buddhist Temple, and the Sri Lanka Association. Additionally, he was honoured to be the first treasurer of the Cultural Forum.
I fondly recall the fundraising event a few years ago for the major bushfire damage. During that special occasion, Dr. Harold happily bid on Bradman’s bat at the auction and generously donated $6500. It was truly a heartfelt effort to support a good cause.
He truly is a remarkable person. I’ve heard that he was the major sponsor of the association’s popular annual Winter Ball in 2024, which he attended and at which he also served as the guest speaker.

We hold the utmost respect for this extraordinary individual, now 97, who remains actively involved in our community.
I extend my best wishes for his good health and hope that he continues to communicate with us for many years to come. He is my mentor and holds the utmost respect for this distinguished individual.
