SCATS Delegation meets new Consul General of Sri Lanka in Melbourne By – Leelananda Ihalagamage, Secretary/Admin., SCATS
SCATS – Sri Lankan Study Centre for the Advancement of Technology and Social Welfare in Australia met the Consul General of Sri Lanka, Mrs. S P P Saram led by Dr Medha Gunawardena, Manager AMCS, Advisor to SCATS. Also present were Mr. Kaleel Carder CPA, President of SCATS, Mr Wasantha Perera OAM, Senior Vice President, Mr Vijaya Karunasena Chairperson Media, and the Founder President of SCATS Mr. Gamini Perera OAM.
The main reason for this meeting with the Consul General was to discuss future collaboration and community initiatives.
The Sri Lankan Study Center for the Advancement of Technology and Social Welfare (SCATS Australia) was founded in 1992 and has become one of the leading non-profit multicultural community organizations in Melbourne. In 2007, SCATS was awarded the Victorian Multicultural Commission Award of Excellence for Community Services.
SCATS service profile includes a range of services such as empowering community through creating awareness and opportunities through education, technology and innovation, promoting cultural and art activities as a mean of engaging culturally and linguistically different-CLAD communities in harmony, Seniors services, youth programs and various social and welfare programs in Victoria. Today, SCATS and its multicultural activities are supported by several groups representing various migrant communities with cultural links from Asia, Middle East, and Africa, with more than thousand members and affiliates supporting.
