South Australia has been crowned Sheffield Shield champions after defeating Victoria by 56 runs at their home, defending their title for the first time in the competitions 133-year history at the CitiPower Centre.
Nathan McAndrew was named Player of the Final after an all round performance, contributing 60 runs in the second innings and claiming six crucial wickets across the match.
He was well supported by experienced wicketkeeper batter Alex Carey, who produced an outstanding second innings century (103) to guide South Australia out of trouble at a critical stage, after they had trailed Victoria on the first innings.
After leaving Victoria a target of 196, South Australia’s bowlers produced a disciplined final innings performance to seal the title.
