A high-level delegation from the Parliament of Sri Lanka is on a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom to enhance parliamentary cooperation, share governance practices, and strengthen bilateral relations.

The delegation is led by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne MP and includes Nalinda Jayatissa MP (Minister of Health and Mass Media), Harshana Nanayakkara MP (Minister of Justice and National Integration), Saroja Savithri Paulraj MP (Minister of Women and Child Affairs), and Hansa Abeyratne, Assistant Secretary General of Parliament.

Facilitated by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) and funded by UK International Development, the visit focuses on improving transparency, accountability, and effective lawmaking through exposure to UK parliamentary practices.

A key topic of discussion is post-legislative scrutiny (PLS) reviewing laws after enactment to assess their impact and effectiveness.

The delegation is engaging with UK parliamentarians and oversight bodies to explore how PLS can strengthen governance and anti-corruption measures.

The team will also meet UK government officials, including Seema Malhotra MP, Minister for the Indo-Pacific, to discuss ongoing UK–Sri Lanka cooperation and future partnerships.
