A young man of Sri Lankan Tamil heritage has been named Player of the Tournament at the Australian National Under 19 Cricket Championships, featuring teams from every state!

Nitesh Samuel, opening for the New South Wales team, was sensational from the start, amassing a massive 364 runs with an average of 91 to claim the prestigious award. The second-best performer had 330 runs at an average of 66.

Nitesh started the series with a brilliant 129 in the first match. He then followed up with a fighting 94, guiding his team to a victory. He also scored 81 against Victoria County. Securing this title from Australia’s deep cricket pool is a rare and fantastic achievement, fueling hopes that he will soon earn a spot in the Australian Under 19 national squad.

Nitesh’s father, Lal Samuel, is an old boy of St. John’s and a former national-level badminton champion.
