Focussing on the current ICC Women’s World Cup performances  it is sad to observe that the same team that performed about five years ago have still been retained. Most women cricketers are ageing above thirty five years old with the oldest been 40 years old. In the last match against Bangladesh when Sri Lanka was batting the commentator said the oldest player in this  world cup is facing the youngest who is seventeen years  incidentally a Bangladeshi still a school girl .  There is presently nearly a dozen who are in the supporting staff, strangely it is a pity that they do not recognize the manner the ageing players are performing constantly failing not delivering. Most have not performed exceptionally well to be retained  in the playing X1 .The same team has been selected sans the young speedster  Malki.  There are batswomen chosen who have not scored a fifty even after fifty appearances this should be addressed to the SLC too..

Team restructuring infusing young blood  aims to enhance  better results with efficiency fostering alliance. There is not a single player elected from a Colombo school It is time budding youngsters are infused into the team in the coming tournaments particularly in bilateral and triangular  tournaments. The Sri Lanka women’s Under 19 team routed the Australian Under 19’s Another five match under 19 tournament is also planned with a team from a country not known much   There are  an ample number of talented young players in the Under 19 category who could be easily groomed to the senior team so that to ensure our women’s team remain competitive in an evolving important fan interest to be drawn to grounds.. Though the entrance to the Premadasa stadium was free we never saw spectator interest which was at a low outline proving the dwindling interest in women’s cricket which is not a good reason for our country too,.

All team members should play individually a vital role in this transition which the selectors should open their eyes. The ageing senior players should be forgotten forthwith if we are to be a forced to be reckoned with counterparts in other cricket playing countries.
