VICTOR’S 90TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Victor Melder celebrating his 90th birthday
On Sunday 21st September 2025, Victor Melder, the doyen of Sri Lankan literature celebrated his 90th birthday with his wife Esther, family and close friends, at lunch, in a Sri Lankan restaurant. To honour this momentous event, his siblings travelled from afar as Brisbane and Perth with the icing on his birthday cake, 3 friends from his birthplace – Sri Lanka!
The food, friendship and camaraderie really made it a memorable event, befitting a person who has contributed so much to Sri Lankan heritage. For almost 60 years, he single-handedly collected and made readily available, free of charge, almost every facet of written, visual & vocal publication on his beautiful isle.
Victor’s speech was very precise and to the point, thanking everyone who has supported him in his incredible journey. He made special thanks to his wife Esther who has been the rock and love of his life.
His only wish in his nonagenarian year, is for the library to finally find a permanent home and continue to provide what he founded it for – Free knowledge on his beloved homeland.
