Ambuluwawa Tower – Experience the Architectural Marvel! – By Dr Harold Gunatillake

Website: www.Doctorharold.com

Harold-GunethilakeHello Viewers,
Thank you for taking the time to visit my channel. Today, I’ll show you a hilly area in the Gampola district of Sri Lanka. You’ll drive along a winding road to reach an elevated point where a tall tower is located. This spot is a popular tourist attraction, drawing hundreds of visitors daily.

The village is called Ambuluwawa.Today, let me take you to a wonderful architectural marvel in Ambuluwawa, in the heart of Sri Lankan’s central highlands. Embarking on this journey, you’ll find yourself on Gampola Road, just an hour’s drive from the Hill Capital, Kandy. Instead of taking the left turn at the petrol station roundabout in Gampola to the famous Nuwara Eliya, the misty City, you’ll proceed straight on Nawalapitiya Road. As you pass the main township of Gampola, a right turn on a narrow road with many residential homes on both sides will lead you to the foot of the hill. From here, a magical road with well-painted edges and many hairpin bends awaits, taking you to the top where the Ambuluwawa Tower is situated.

As you climb the hill, you enter an area covered with over a century-old tall trees. The road is well carpeted with painted edges with white paint, and you need to go through many hairpin bends on this magical road to reach the top, where the Marvel Tower is situated.

Looking to the left from your vehicle, unimaginable views of the mountains, and at the
bottom valley, the panorama of the Gampola and Nawalapitiya towns with streaming rivers and roads, an ecstatic view.

The Seven Wonders of the World are a group of places around the globe considered
to be of great importance. This Ambuluwawa Tower you are about to see is more than
just a destination; it’s a journey through history, culture, and nature and would qualify
as the world’s eighth wonder.

The Ambuluwawa Tower, a unique tower, stands proudly on top of a mountain, symbolizing Sri Lanka’s dedication to religious harmony. It’s not just a tower but a spiritual journey.

As you ascend the spiralling staircase, you’ll encounter spaces dedicated to Sri Lanka’s four major religions. A Buddhist Stupa, a Hindu Kovil, a Muslim Mosque, and a Christian Church coexist here, each occupying a different tower level. This is unique.
With its Buddhist Stupa, Hindu Kovil, Christian Church and Muslim Mosque, the Ambuluwawa Biodiversity Complex is where people of all four beliefs come together to practice their religion.

People worldwide visit it, and the complex has become a symbol of harmony and
unity between religions. Reaching the summit of Ambuluwawa Tower rewards you with a 360-degree breathtaking panorama view of the surrounding landscape. From the central highlands to the distant coastline, the views are spectacular, offering a visual feast that captures the essence of Sri Lanka’s natural beauty. The Ambuluwawa Tower is not just a cultural landmark, but also the centrepiece of a biodiversity complex.

The area is a haven for nature lovers and conservationists, home to approximately
200 plants. Its unique location atop a mountain offers breathtaking views and a serene
environment, making it a must-visit for those who appreciate nature’s beauty. The site holds great historical significance. It is widely believed that in the 14th century King Buvanekabahu IV made a significant discovery of the mountain where the Ambuluwawa Tower now stands. Its historical significance is matched only by its ecological importance, as it serves as a living museum of the region’s flora.

The Ambuluwawa Tower is more than just a destination; it’s a journey through history, culture, and nature. It proudly symbolises Sri Lanka’s dedication to preserving its diverse heritage and promoting a message of peace and harmony. Now, let me take you through this tower’s design and architectural influences.

• The tower rises to a height of 55.5 meters and is perched on top of Ambuluwawa Mountain, which is 1,356 meters above sea level1.
• It features a multilevel design, each level dedicated to a different religious faith: Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity. This reflects the country’s diverse religious landscape.
• Ambuluwawa Tower incorporates elements from various architectural styles, including Sri Lankan, Indian, Chinese, and Thai influences, creating a unique monument that stands out in the region.

• The structure is adorned with intricate carvings and embellishments that narrate Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage. Visitors can ascend the tower via a spiralling staircase, which allows them to admire the detailed symbols and designs along the way.

In conclusion, I would like to say The Ambuluwawa Tower is more than just a destination; it’s a journey through history, culture, and nature. It stands proudly as a
symbol of Sri Lanka’s dedication to preserving its diverse heritage and promoting a
message of peace and harmony. Thank you for joining us in exploring the Ambuluwawa Tower, a true wonder of Sri Lanka.

Please visit this marvel tower on your next holiday in Sri Lanka. Hope you enjoyed watching this video, as much as I did producing it. So, goodbye for now until we meet some other time, maybe with a health topic.
