British Council Sri Lanka recognises leading Cambridge English Registration Centres

British Council Sri Lanka recognises leading Cambridge English Registration Centres

The British Council Sri Lanka hosted an awards ceremony recently, to recognise top Cambridge English registration centres for their valuable contribution.

The event was organised to appreciate and recognise the British Council’s Cambridge centres for the many years of service and significant contribution towards exam registrations and support extended to grow the business through value addition. The ceremony also recognized 74 students of Sri Lanka and Maldives who have scored full marks for Cambridge English examinations administered by British Council Sri Lanka in 2024.

In appreciation of their outstanding performance, several registration centres received special accolades. Cambridge College of British English was awarded the Platinum Award, ESOL College International – Maharagama received the Gold award, the Institute of British Examinations – Negombo received the Silver award and the Bronze award was presented to Lucyden Speech School – Galle.

A highlight of the ceremony was recognising the highest volumes contributor for each province as well as the leading contributor for the Maldives in 2024.  A total of 10 regional plaques were presented to these winners.

Additionally, in appreciation of the contribution made in 2024 to the British Council as a registration centre for Cambridge English, ten other centres in the Western province received special plaques.

During the event, two individual teachers and four centres were felicitated with a Lifetime achievement plaque for their unwavering support and dedication to the British Council as a registration centre. Headway School of Languages – Batticaloa, who have been working with British Council since 2002 was among the Lifetime winners.   

Liviniya English Academy – Gampaha received the ‘Rising Star’ plaque in appreciation of the phenomenal growth in Cambridge English registrations recorded for British Council Sri Lanka for the year 2024.

Orlando Edwards, Country Director British Council, Dominic Hudson – Exams Director British Council Sri Lanka and Maldives, and Priyanka Mukherjee; Senior Manager- International Business and Product Solutions for Cambridge University Press and Assessment were the distinguished invitees. Over 350 participants from across the country and the Maldives attended the event.

The British Council has a long and proud history of delivering Cambridge English exams across the world, helping to maintain the reputation and recognition of these qualifications.  In Sri Lanka, the British Council has been working closely with Cambridge Assessment English for over 34 years, ensuring secure, fair and reliable delivery of exams. The British Council in Sri Lanka achieved the esteemed Platinum Centre status in 2024, making it the first Cambridge English Authorised Centre in the South Asia region to receive this prestigious recognition.

British Council is the first Cambridge English Authorised centre in Sri Lanka and is the market leader for Cambridge English qualifications. To-date over 250 registration centres in Sri Lanka and Maldives prepare candidates for Cambridge English exams. Partners are spread across the nine provinces in Sri Lanka and in three atolls in the Maldives.

Dominic Hudson, Exams Director British Council Sri Lanka and Maldives said: “British Council recorded its highest Cambridge English exam volumes in the current financial year 2024-25. This was possible due to the significant volume contributed by our registration centres. We will continue to support our registration centres to grow their business through teacher training workshops and qualification awareness sessions enabling the British Council to impact the lives of many students who aspire to obtain a UK qualification. Through the registration centres we have also reached out to candidates island wide from the North to the South and East to West.”
