The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) Queensland Chapter and Sabaragamuwa Chapter jointly hosted its 15th Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity on Sunday, 25th September 2022 as a webinar.

The presentation was delivered online by an expert panel:

• Dr. Prasanna Egodawatta – Senior Lecturer in Water/Environmental Engineering at the Queensland University of Technology.
• Dr Sharmil Markar – Managing Director of WRM Water & Environment, a Brisbane-based specialist water resources consultancy.
• Prof. K.D.W. Nandalal – Senior Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Peradeniya.
• Eng. S.P.C. Sugeeshwara – current Director of Irrigation (Hydrology and Disaster Management) of the Irrigation Department of Sri Lanka.

The seminar provided insight into :

• Floods in Australia: frequency, severity , damage and Brisbane River Floods
• Floods in Sri Lanka: causes, hotspots and impacts
• Roles and responsibilities of government agencies in flood mitigation
• Flood mitigation: Australian context
• flood modelling, forecasting and flood risk management
• Queensland flood mitigation framework
• Flood mitigation: Sri Lankan context
• focus and progress on structural flood mitigation
• major projects and their impacts

The event, attended by more than 70 participants from around Australia and overseas, including Sri Lanka, ended with an extended Q & A panel discussion session.
