LOLC Finance, in collaboration with Mathurataby Browns Plantations, and Vibhava Solution (Private) Limited had embarked on a tree planting project in Enselwatte Estate of Maturata Plantations in Deniyaya.

Aligning with the significance of World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, the primary objective of this initiative was to rejuvenate the forest canopy in Deniyaya

In addition to the restoration efforts, this project aims to enhance awareness on the importance of preserving and restoring our forests, particularly among school children. By engaging 130 students from Selwankanda Tamil School, the programme seeks to educate and inspire young minds to develop a profound love and care for their environment. Through this hands-on experience, the students will gain a deeper understanding of the consequences of their actions on nature.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is especially relevant to the undertaking led by LOLC Finance and its partners. The campaign emphasizes the need to abandon the use of plastic and acknowledge its significant contribution to environmental degradation. Through tree planting, LOLC Finance intends to emphasize the vital role forests play in mitigating climate change and conserving biodiversity, while also drawing attention to the harmful effects of plastic pollution.

Referring to the project, Montini Warnakula, the Chief Operating Officer of LOLC Finance, emphasized the company’s commitment as a responsible corporate citizen towards environmental preservation and sustainable development. The tree-planting event saw the meticulous planting of 1,000 plants, which is part of a larger initiative involving 20,000 trees in the 50-acre Miyawaki Forest and Butterfly Garden which commenced last year. Additionally, the reforestation project generates valuable carbon credits through the capture or prevention of carbon emissions, underscoring its carbon in-setting value. These credits can be utilized for carbon offsetting. Through this tree-planting endeavour, LOLC Finance effectively neutralizes its carbon emissions, achieving a balance for its carbon footprint. Furthermore, the company strives to restore Deniyaya’s natural beauty and create a significant environmental influence. By engaging young students in the process, the initiative also aims to instil a sense of responsibility and love for the environment, ensuring a better future for generations to come.”

This tree-planting project exemplifies the commitment and collaboration between various entities in preserving our natural resources. By uniting on World Environment Day, LOLC Finance, Mathurata by Browns Plantations and Vibhava Solution (Private) Limited demonstrate their dedication to environmental stewardship and inspire others to take action. Together, they lay the foundation for a greener and more sustainable future, driven by the overarching theme of “one tree at a time.”
