The Jaffna College Alumni Association wishes to announce to the alumni across the world that the Board of Directors of Jaffna College have appointed Mrs. Rushira Kulasingham as the Principal of Jaffna College with effect from the 1st of January 2023.

We are delighted to note that Mrs. Rushira Kulasingham will be the first female Principal of Jaffna College.

An installation service for the new Principal will be held at the St. Thomas’ Cathedral of the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India at Vaddukoddai on Sunday, the 6th of November 2022. The time of the service will be announced soon.

Mrs. Rushira Kulasingham received her early education at Methodist College, Colombo and Chundikuli Girls’ College, Jaffna. She later obtained a BA degree with English as a subject from the University of Jaffna and an MA degree in Linguistics from the University of Kelaniya.

Her professional qualifications include Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) Teacher Accreditation (UK), Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (CTHE) from the University of Colombo and a Certificate in Teaching English for Business Purposes from the University of Edinburgh (UK).

Mrs. Kulasingham held the positions of Instructor and Lecturer at the English Language Teaching Centre of the University of Jaffna and the English Language Teaching Unit of the University of Colombo respectively. She also served as the Head of the English Language Teaching Unit of the University of Colombo, Director of the King Sejong Institute at the University of Colombo and Head of the Department of Languages at the Saegis Campus, Nugegoda.

Mrs. Kulasingham is widely credited for her leading role in upgrading the English Language Teaching Unit of the University of Colombo into a full-fledged academic department.

Mrs. Kulasingham contributed to various initiatives on teaching English conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education in her capacity as consultant. In addition, she served on the Presidential Task Force on IT and English in 2011. Mrs. Kulasingham’s expertise in the field of Teaching English was sought by the University of Peradeniya, South-Eastern University of Sri Lanka, SLIATE, and SLIM and several other institutions, schools and companies in Sri Lanka.

Her publications and presentations focus on Business and Professional English, curriculum development and oral communication, among others. She also conducted teacher training programs at Jaffna College, Uduvil Girls’ College, St. John’s College, Jaffna and Chundikuli Girls’ College.

Mrs. Rushira Kulasingham served on the Board of the CMS schools and held the post of Manager of Chundikuli Girls’ College, Jaffna.
The Jaffna College Alumni Association congratulates Mrs. Rushira Kulasingham on her appointment as Principal of Jaffna College and wishes her the best in her new role.

The Association also pledges its full support to all the constructive initiatives taken by Mrs. Kulasingham towards the development of Jaffna College.
