In a rare and serene moment, wild elephants were captured on drone footage sleeping peacefully by the Mahaweli River near Mahiyanganaya.
The video, shared with Ada Derana, reveals the majestic herd resting on the ground in broad daylight—an unusual sight, as elephants typically sleep during the night. It is believed that the herd had spent the night foraging for food before settling down to rest.
The remarkable footage was filmed yesterday evening (10th) in an area along the Mahaweli River, close to Mahiyanganaya town, offering a unique glimpse into the quiet, natural behavior of these gentle giants.
