On the 27th September 2025, Sri Lankan chartered accountants’ resident in NSW, Young and not so young, with their friends celebrated the 65th anniversary of the “Institute of Chartered accountants of Sri Lanka hosting the traditional “Chartered Ball” at The Epping Club.
Joining the celebrations were some members from NZ, Brisbane and Melbourne. It was a well-attended nostalgic event of over 300 guests. There was a senior member from the very first batch to qualify Mr Rex Olegasekaram, past Council member and lecturer Mr A Sivathondan, past president and former managing partner of PWC Sri Lanka Mr Sujeewa Mudalige and many senior and younger accountants and their spouses showcasing the legacy of the Institute.
The two main sponsors of the event were, Home Land of Melbourne, and our own CA member Mr Rukmal Wijesuriya’s Intelligent Finance Specialists. Other sponsors of the event were “All-purpose Accounting” and “Falcon accounting Services Pty Ltd”.
The culinary experience was one of the highlights of the evening. guests relished the delectable canapés and pre-dinner beverages and trips to the Bar, leading to the sumptuous three-course dinner, thoughtfully crafted and served by The Epping Club and its meticulous Chef.
The program began with a minute’s silence remembering those members who are no longer with us.
Our Chief Guest was the oldest living member. The founder of the Accounting Firm Kanesalingam & Co- Mr S Kanesalingam, who did the honours of cutting the anniversary cake and presenting a toast expressing best wishes for continued success of the Institute.
This was a delightful evening filled with joy and nostalgia, members relished the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and colleagues, sharing fond memories of the times past. Being members of this prestigious Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka is a source of immense pride and professional fulfillment.
Music by “The Cazcade” one of the oldest bands in NSW, kept the dance floor alive with everyone dancing gracefully to the fantastic repertoire of music we all love and the rhythm of the Baila. The atmosphere was one of genuine happiness, laughter, and cherished camaraderie. The dinner break was helped by live music provided by Tali of The Allegro strings.
The event proceeded smoothly managed by master of ceremonies Duke Ramachandra, the best there is, with a warm introduction and witty remarks together with the context of the event that set the tone and assisted the momentum. The ticket draw had many winning delightful gifts.
Everyone was full of praise for the evening, calling it a grand, classy and “The Ball of the year”.
15 years ago in 2015, a similar Chartered Ball to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of The Institute of Chartered accountants was organised by the NSW resident members of the Institute.
