MULTICULTURAL EVENTS AND FESTIVALS SET TO BRIGHTEN LOCAL STREETS

A bumper number of cultural events and festivals have been scheduled between now and January 2023 with support from a record $1 million investment by the NSW Government.

More than 160 community groups have been awarded a share in $1.09 million through the NSW Government’s Stronger Together Grants Program to host local cultural events and festivals.

Minister for Multiculturalism Mark Coure said this investment has been made possible thanks to the $28 million multi-year funding that had been secured through the 2022-23 NSW Budget.

“This is the first time we have been able to fund this many events at one time,” Mr Coure said.

These events and festivals are just what NSW needs to help celebrate our diverse communities and bring people together in family-friendly environments,” Mr Coure said.

“While bringing people together they will also help break down barriers between cultures and build mutual understanding and respect of each other.”

Groups that applied for funding were awarded between $5,000 and $15,000 to host their events.

“We are about to see a great many cultural events happen soon, including mid-Autumn festivals. The Korean Community Welfare Association for example will use $15,000 to host a Korean Moon Festival, which will help reconnect their community with activities,” Mr Coure said.

From today (Monday, 1 August), community groups will also be able to apply for grants through the Stronger Together Project Grants. Funding between $20,000 and $40,000 is on offer to groups wanting to develop projects that help drive social cohesion in their local area.

Funding will be available for projects delivered between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2023. Applications for these grants will be open until 5pm Friday, 26 August. More information about the grants can be found at https://multicultural.nsw.gov.au/grants
