A Hebrew Bible more than 1,000 years old and described as “one of the most important and singular texts in human history” has become the most valuable manuscript ever sold at auction. The Codex Sassoon, dating from the late 9th or early 10th century, sold for $38.1 million at Sotheby’s in New York on Wednesday. It is believed to be the earliest and most complete Hebrew Bible. The last manuscript to top sales records was Leonardo da Vinci’s Codex Leicester, which sold for $30.8 million in 1994, according to Sotheby’s. When Kandy was the Capitol of Ceylon – By Dr. Tilak S. Fernando. Up-country reign was divided into 21 sectors. Out of 21 sections, the kingdom was divided into 12 main sectors, with a separate section head (Disapathy) in charge of every section who possessed the executive powers (civil and war affairs).  These Disapathys collected taxes from the king’s subjects and sent taxes to Kandy.  Disapathys paid all the facilities of the king and paid to the government stores annually. It was mentioned that, unlike the dry zone, up country being a wet zone, there was adequate water supply in the up-country in both seasons (yala & maha) because of the river’s waterways were available adequately. Apart from that, some rivers and waterways made ...

Noel News “Government projects are notorious for taking longer and costing more than originally planned. This is because they are typically very complex and involve many stakeholders with differing interests and priorities.” SENATOR TOM COBURN, 2013 Last Tuesday’s budget was a surprise… As the first real budget after a change of government, it didn’t follow the historical pattern. Then in the following budget, which could well be an election budget, given the three-year election cycle, they reward voters with a much more friendly budget. But the only obvious nasty in this budget was increasing taxes for people who have ...
