Beautiful Sigiriya full of mysteries – By Nadeeka – eLanka

Sigiriya is one of the best places to see many people who come to Sri Lanka every year. In 1980, UNESCO named Sigiriya a national world heritage, and Sigiriya is also known as the 8th wonder of the world.

Even today, there are many things that could not be solved about the technology of Sigiriya.

There are historical stories about Sigiriya. According to grant history, the Sigiriya kingdom is more than 1500 years old. But archaeological evidence suggests that it may have been alive more than 5000 years ago.

The height of Sigiri rock is only 180 meters. Due to this height, the kingdom of Sigiri gained great advantages. The point of this grant is the difficulty for enemy irregulars to attack this kingdom. The other thing is the ability to easily inspect the entire environment. It was easier to know and prepare for enemies to come.

Sigiri kingdom was established by Kashyapa king. Let us now consider the reason for that. King Dathusena, who lived in 473 ADS, ruled for 18 years. He was then the ruler of Anuradhapura kingdom. He had two sons. One is the Mughal prince and the other son is the Kasyapa prince. The Mughal prince was destined for kingship. The reason was that Prince Kashyapa ‘s mother was a vice queen. As a result, he lost his right to the throne. But this prince Kasyapa was eager to be king. Having somehow developed the ambition to become king, he finally made a terrible decision. And it worked. It was to kill his father King Dathusena and get the kingship.

There are two historical stories about the assassination of King Dathusena. One is that Prince Kasyapa conspired with the Vihara general and killed the king. and the other story is that Because King Dhatusena did not give the treasure requested by Prince Kasyapa, he kept the Kala Lake on the bank and covered it with clay.

However, after killing his father, Kasyapa becomes the king. But King Kasyapa feared that his brother, the Mughal prince, would take revenge for killing his father at any moment. So, he moved his fort to Sigiriya. It is said in history that he continued to rule his kingdom from there.

By this time, the Mugalan prince who had fled to South India came to meet Prince Kasyapa with a large army. Prince Kasyapa was defeated in the battle that took place there. But Prince Kasyapa, who was not at all willing to accept defeat and surrender, cut off his head with his own hands and died.

So, after the death of King Kashrapa, who made such a beautiful creation, the Mughal prince went to Anuradhapura and became the king there. Sigiriya was abandoned. In time, Sigiri becomes a house of monks. But later on, they also go to areas like Kandy, so this valuable artistic work starts to grow wild. One eventually became the jungle itself.

Sigiriya was later discovered by a group of British archaeologists who came in the 19th century.

Although Sigiriya seems lacking in facilities, the food, drinks and swimming pools are perfectly designed and beautiful. There are never-ending pools of water here, fruit gardens have been created separately. A very beautiful palace was built and unfortunately, only the base remains today. That situation has been demonstrated. The reason for this is that since all the buildings here are made of wood, many years have passed without any maintenance and finally they have been destroyed.

When we talk about Sigiriya, we cannot forget Sigiriya Lalanawan. It shows that there were many about 500 of these Lalana images as mentioned in many beautiful still inscriptions. But today only 24 of those creations are left. This painting takes place in sitanas, which are apparently not affected by recent rains. The reason why these designs have survived is that they are not affected by heavy rainwater. Those who are going to see Sigiri paintings are definitely advised to avoid taking pictures of these paintings. The reason for this is to protect this natural beauty for future generations to see.

Sigiriya has another creation. Mirror wall. It contains the creations of Sinhala poets. These poetry creations contain deeper ideas than what is seen on the surface. These poems have used themes like the beauty of Sigiri murals and the beauty of the surrounding environment. So far, about 685 such songs have been translated by Senarath Paranavithana champions.

The lion gate is the stone lion that decorates the grant gate. Today, only the two legs of the branch remain. But it is said that if you could enter this kingdom in the past, you would pass through the mouth located between the two legs.

There are many beautiful facts about Sigiriya, one of which is a palace belonging to King Ravana. It seems that there was an elevator to go up and down here. If not, the king will have to put in a lot of effort to travel up and down the mountain

Another view is that it was created by God to maintain relationships between God and humans. Because it is difficult for a human to make a design like this. Another reason for that is Figures of Sigiri Lalanans. Anyone can see images of women showering flowers from the clouds. Therefore, these women in the sky are referred to as God’s women

Another living testimony mentioned in the rumors holds another opinion. It was a gate to enter the Sigiriya rock. The only evidence of this is a local old man who saw it with his own eyes. He says that the British archaeologists who discovered Sigiriya went that way and took all the precious old scrolls and treasures there and put them in ships and sent them to Britain. Then they blocked the way into the rocks. He has said that the road is near the lion’s foot. As a result of that curse, it is said that the eyes of this old man who saw this stone gate with his eyes and went into it were also blinded due to this curse.

However, Sigiriya was one of the most wonderful places in the world, which hides many secrets. Even today Sigiri remains full of mysteries.
