Email from Mr. Skanda Kumar

Dear Anton and Bron,  as a new year begins with its challenges I am writing to convey my heartfelt thanks for the generous support you have extended in my social work over the years.

In a brief overview of our activities last year,

1)We continued our supply of monthly dry rations to over 2000 destitute elders in 22 Identified districts at a cost of Rs Five Million a month.

2) We provided the total monthly requirements of food provisions for an orphanage / childrens home in Beragala,

3) We did the same for an elders home for mentally and physically handicapped residents  in Haldumulla.

4) We also extended the same support to a home for abandoned young girls in Haputale,

5) We ensured a regular supply of nutrition and vitamins for the children at two day care centres one each in Bandarawela and Beragala

6) We provided  shoes, school bags, and books for children in need at the beginning of the year, to protect the dignity of the school going child.

7) We supported generously the Winrose Academy in Haputale that conducts free of charge courses in Hospitality, IT and English for post O and A level students in the poorer Plantation sector.

8) In a phased programme over five years we gifted 220   Wells ( Dug out and Tube ) to families recovering from the conflict in drought stricken areas in the Vanni.

This has helped them to pursue the cultivation of food crops  both for their consumption and sale.

9) Finally We also provided monthly stipends of Rs 10,000 to approximately thirty University students identified as being in need by the authorities ,at the Jaffna and Batticaloa Universities, and supported  thirty poor families in the Haputale area with Rs 5000 monthly

Thank you sincerely for your generosity that has helped make all this possible.

Many Blessings

Skanda
