Kingswood College, Kandy-by Kalani-eLanka

Kingswood College-eLanka

Kingswood College, located in the historic city of Kandy, Sri Lanka, is one of the country’s most prestigious boys’ schools. Established in 1891 by Louis Edmund Blaze, a visionary educationist, the school has a proud history of producing well-rounded students who excel in academics, sports, and culture.

History
Kingswood was founded during the British colonial era, making it one of the oldest schools in Sri Lanka. Blaze, a former teacher at Wesley College, Colombo, envisioned an institution that would nurture discipline, character, and scholarship among young boys. Over the years, Kingswood developed a reputation for academic excellence and values-based education.

Motto and Identity
The school’s motto is Fide et Virtute (By Faith and Courage), reflecting its emphasis on moral strength, integrity, and perseverance. The maroon and gold school colors symbolize pride and tradition, while the school song fosters unity and spirit among students and alumni.

Academics
Kingswood College offers education from primary to secondary levels, preparing students for both local and international examinations. The school maintains high academic standards, encouraging critical thinking, leadership, and innovation. Many of its alumni have become prominent professionals in fields such as law, medicine, politics, engineering, and the arts.

Sports and Extracurricular Activities
Kingswood is particularly renowned for rugby. In fact, the school is recognized as the first to introduce rugby in Sri Lanka in 1891. The annual rugby encounter between Kingswood and other leading schools remains a highlight in the sports calendar. Apart from rugby, the school excels in cricket, athletics, basketball, and other sports.
Cultural activities, music, drama, debating, and scouting are also integral to the school experience, shaping students into well-rounded individuals.

Alumni and Legacy
The Kingswood Union, the school’s alumni association, plays a vital role in supporting the institution and maintaining connections between past and present students. Kingswoodians, as the old boys are called, contribute significantly to the nation and beyond, carrying forward the school’s values.

Conclusion
For more than a century, Kingswood College, Kandy, has stood as a symbol of discipline, courage, and excellence. With its strong foundation in academics, sports, and values, the school continues to shape generations of young men to serve their communities and country with pride.
