Let’s make a quick delicious Sri Lankan nutritious sweet – Kurakkan Halapa – By Nadeeka – eLanka

Kurakkan halapa is a traditional Sri Lankan snack that is made with finger millet flour (kurakkan flour), grated coconut, and jaggery. Kurakkan, also known as finger millet, is a nutritious grain that is grown in Sri Lanka and other parts of the world. Kurakkan halapa is a healthy and tasty snack that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

To make kurakkan halapa, you will need:

  • 1 cup kurakkan flour
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1/2 cup jaggery or Suger
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Water as needed

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the kurakkan flour, grated coconut, jaggery, and salt.
  2. Mix well and add water gradually, while kneading the dough, until you get a smooth and slightly sticky dough.
  3. Take a small portion of the dough and shape it into a ball or a cake.
  4. Place the shaped halapa on a piece of banana leaf or aluminum foil.
  5. Steam the halapa in a steamer for 15-20 minutes or until cooked.
  6. Remove the halapa from the steamer and serve hot.

Kurakkan halapa is a great snack for people who are looking for healthy and gluten-free options. It is rich in fiber, protein, and essential minerals, and can be enjoyed as a snack or a dessert. Kurakkan halapa can also be stored in an airtight container for a few days, making it a great option for people who are on the go.
