“MOTHERS’ DAY” – By Des Kelly

Mothers’ day, the 9th of May, in Australia, is almost upon us. While my own dear Mum is now long gone, (God bless her), there would doubtless be thousands of Mothers in Australia, whose families will be getting ready to celebrate this very special day.

Please let me add to these celebrations by reminding everyone that, while they are living, EVERY DAY should be Mother’s day, simply because we would not be HERE without them. Always give your parents, both Mother and Father all the respect they so richly deserve.

Many many moons ago, I remember singing a song dedicated to Mum, on Radio Ceylon. It is now just one of those “good old songs” that very few would remember, so, for EVERY MOTHER out there, here are the lyrics I sang, and now dedicate to all of you.

M is for the Million things you gave me

O means that you now, are growing Old

T is for the Tears you shed to save me

H is for your Heart of pure gold

E is for your Eyes, with lovelight shining

R is Right, and Right, you’ll always be

Put them all together, they spell Mother

The word that means the World to me.

There is another ancient song called”Mother, the Queen of my heart”

but I think I will leave that until next year (hopefully). Enjoy “Mothers’ Day”.
