RCOBA NSW and ACT Secretary Update Summer 2022

RCOBA NSW and ACT Secretary Update Summer 2022

Dear RCOBA NSW and ACT Member,

Firstly, for those celebrating Christmas, Wish you a very Merry Christmas!

I would also like to wish everyone a great Australian summer ahead.

Please find below the final update from the RCOBA NSW and ACT Committee for 2022 and the exciting events you can look forward to in the new year.

Sports Corner – Year of Tennis and summer of Cricket

The year of sports continued with a second successful tennis tournament between Royal College and Jaffna Hindu College held on 18 September at the Parramatta City Tennis Centre.  Alas, our rivals were the better team on the day, but it has motivated us to reach out to other OBAs to promote getting out on the court and enjoying a volley with friends, and we are hoping to organise a tournament with S. Thomas soon. Congratulations to Jaffna Hindu College!

Speaking of our Thomian friends, as usual, our cricket season is in full swing with the Royal Thomian planned for Australia Day on 26 January 2023. Keep the date free to come and cheer Royal. In fact, keep the long weekend free to watch the Kari-Lawton Trophy Over 60 Tournament on 28 January!

We are also planning a T20 encounter with S. Thomas in April 2023. Stay tuned.

The first ever Royal College vs. Jaffna Hindu College Open, Classic and Masters tournament triple header was played on 11 December 2022. Royal College bagged the Open and Classic games whilst St John’s got the Masters game over the line.

Congratulations to Chairth, Aruna and the respective teams for their great wins and the St John’s Masters team for their well-deserved victory.

The Royal College Valentine’s Ball

Finally, the grand finale to our event calendar this year. This is the showcase event of RCOBA NSW and ACT. Those that attended the last Ball in 2020 or in previous years will no doubt be looking forward to another amazing event in February.

I know you have already kept the date – Saturday 4 February 2023 – free (so you can have a double header and celebrate Valentine’s Day and the 75th Independence Day of Sri Lanka). Tickets are with your Committee members and if you have not collected them already, we would be grateful if you please do so before Australia Day.

The Committee is grateful for your support and welcome any advertising and/or sponsorship support you can provide to make this event the best one yet.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Thaya,  Soumy or any of the Committee Members.

As another year draws to a close, let me wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy close to 2022 and a wonderful 2023!
