  • 1 cup of grated coconut
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 green chili (chopped)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water (as needed)

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the wheat flour, grated coconut, chopped onion, green chili, and salt.
  2. Gradually add water and knead the mixture to form a smooth, firm dough.
  3. Divide the dough into small portions and shape them into round rotis.
  4. Heat a griddle or flat pan and cook each roti until golden brown on both sides.
  5. Serve hot with Lunu Miris for an authentic Sri Lankan experience.

Lunu Miris: The Spicy Condiment with a Kick

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium-sized red onions (finely chopped)
  • 2-3 red or green chilies (based on spice preference)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Maldive fish flakes (optional)
  • Lime juice (from half a lime)

Instructions:

  1. In a mortar and pestle, crush the chopped onions, chilies, and garlic together.
  2. Add salt and Maldive fish flakes (if using) to the crushed mixture and continue grinding until you achieve a coarse paste.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and squeeze lime juice over it. Mix well.
  4. Adjust salt and lime juice according to taste.
  5. Allow the Lunu Miris to sit for a while to let the flavors meld before serving.
