One of the Days; in a Retiree’s Daily Routine.- By Noor Rahim
It is the onset of a cold day in Autumn
And the sun has still not arisen
My wake-up call by Mother Nature comes later
But as regimented I wake up in the dark; no matter
I drag my feet to the washroom looking glum but solemn
Peering through the blind it looks dark, dreary and forlorn
But thank God the washroom has an electric heater
That makes the situation bearable and better
After the normal routine and motions
I’m ready for my cup of tea and toasted muffin
Plans for the day are part of the daily reckoner
Which shopping Mall do we go to is the poser?
We set off to the Mall in our small sedan
To soon confront the traffic; the rush; and the aggression
There’s so much indiscipline and rudeness that one encounters
Was the trip worthwhile? One has to ponder
In retirement one has to make a commitment
To keep the body and soul in unaggravated motion
So, on the safe return home I slump into my recliner
And reminisce of the past in amazement and wonder
