Benediction – By Charmaine Candappa I sense the Autumn’s smell of sweet decay And here the winter sparrow’s song. I see the mountains across the trail Veiled in snowy mist against the darkened sky. The rain and lightning join together for a few hours. I witness the trembling leaves and flowers in the rain As I sip my sweetened hot tea in bed.   Click here to receive your free copy of the eLanka Newsletter twice a week delivered directly to your inbox!   ...

Autumn Landscape – By Charmaine Candappa The days are short and dark, as the wind rustles its leaves gently. Huge trees explode in colors of orange, wine, and saffron, some a blushing pink and flame. The Elm lifts its branches to a stately arch above beside the Oak that stands massive and tall. The brooding Cypress remains always green while chipmunks scrabble down trees gathering fruit and nuts, storing it in their burrows. Mushrooms sprout up from from the damp earth, as a spider’s web glistens in the morning light. Delicate dragonflies seem to be suspended in the air. And a brood of ducks swim across the pond hoping to nestle across the swamp. I hear the symphony of the wind and observe the amazing beauty of Creation.   Charmaine Candappa   Click here to receive your free copy of the eLanka Newsletter twice a week delivered directly to your inbox!   ...

Yearning – by Noor Rahim   The word “yearning” means: “eager to fulfill a desire”; “filled with a desire”; “longing for” or simply “craving” as per the common definitions in any dictionary. In life we are constantly confronted with our “yearnings” or cravings; be it for materialistic requirements and wants; or for our spiritual needs/guidance. Yet with some resorting to spiritual favours (for fulfillment of cravings for ones needs/ requirements) in order to fulfill their materialistic desires. Apart from such above desires; we in the very North or should I say “Top of the World” have a definitive “craving”, working in our innermost sub conscience, when we confront the God given phenomena of the 4 well defined seasons that rules our very lives. That of Summer; Autumn; Winter; and Fall. We “weather the storm” so to say year in and year out, bravely and meaningfully; with some enjoying and yet ...
