SUNDAY CHOICE – Give them all to Jesus – By Charles Schokman

Years ago a man name Phil Johnson wrote a song that literally took much of Christianity by storm. It was entitled, ”Give them all to Jesus.” Here are the lyrics:

Are you tired of chasing pretty rainbows? Are you tired of spinning round and round?
Wrap up all the shattered dreams of your life and at the feet of Jesus lay them down.
He never promised you’d always see sunshine. He never promised there’d be no more rain.
He only promised a heart from of singing about the very things that once brought pain.
Give them all, give them all, give them all to Jesus;
Shattered dreams, wounded hearts, and broken toys.
Give them all, give them all, give them all to Jesus;
And He will turn your sorrow into Joy.

With this lyric, Phil is calling us to take all our issue, all our stuff, all that we think is important and lay them at the feet of Jesus. This begins with our lives, our salvation. Being saved is not simply about a change of mind, it is about a change of heart which is brought about by a surrender. When you experience a surrender, you turn loose of your rights to your captor. Several times Paul calls himself a ‘servant’, ‘slave,’ or a ‘bond-servant.’ Candidly, this may be the most difficult truth for Americans to embrace because we’ve been taught to believe that doing ‘what you want’ is true freedom. A gray-haired preacher preaching God’s counter-cultural truth has his work cut out for him. True freedom that we find in Christ is the freedom to become all GOD DESIGNED US TO BE. He designed us to be and become more than we could ever imagine. Our fallen humanity stands in the way, but when we ”Give all our baggage to Jesus, HE WILL turn our lives into lives of meaning, hope, fulfillment and purpose.” This is our starting point – to becoming the person we can be.—Courtesy of Jerry Watts

Pray this hymn will be a blessing to you by giving it all to Jesus.
