Grease and flour a cake tin. Sift together the flour and cocoa powder, and set aside. In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until foamy. Gently fold in the sifted flour and cocoa powder mixture, followed by vanilla essence. Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and bake for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. While the cake is baking, prepare the sugar syrup.
