“A ROYAL LOVE-STORY” – by Des Kelly    Just a little bit different, yet interesting to those who do not wish to read all about it. Sent out by Charles Schokman, so thank you Charles.  It is but a few days before the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness Prince Phillip who actually did not want too much fanfare & fuss about his funeral is, once more, getting exactly what he wanted, because of the ravishes of Covid 19 still sweeping across Britain, and so, Royal Protocol as regards funerals, which, under normal conditions, would be huge ceremonial affairs, processions, etc., have now been scaled down, strangely, as this Duke wanted, anyway.   ...

“TYPEWRITERS’ ALL” – by Des Kelly Who can forget them ?, not me. I still hang on to one that I have owned for years. I am sure that Charles Schokman will never forget them either, nor will the thousands who no longer use them.            I also boast an Uncle who was the Chief Stenographer of the  Law Courts in Ceylon, of his era (1950s), visiting my good friend David Swan, the only son of Judge St.Clair Swan to watch one of his younger sisters “do her thing” on the typewriter ...

‘THE ELVIS FINALE’ – By Des Kelly Sent out, via Charles Schokman, this is the sad but true final chapter of the story of Elvis Presley, undoubtedly one of the finest Entertainers to have graced this Planet. Elvis had everything He had the looks, the charisma, voice, moves, & talent, rarely seen on Earth, yet was taken away far too soon, in the opinion of millions of his fans.  ...

“COMEDY IS” – By Des Kelly   Just a short while to go, before all Victorians in Australia will be able to move around freely, once more. We have been trying our very best to keep ourselves occupied for the past few weeks, in lockdown, because of C.V.19, and it has been extremely difficult, but now Charles Schokman has been kind enough to present the Irish Comic genius Dave Allan who, in turn, is trying to teach us how to tell the time.            This also tells us a few things. Dave should have been here with us in Melbourne, teaching some NITWITS that THEY will be responsible for a longer TIME in  restrictions if they keep going to the beach, breaking the contact rules,  and being stupid. ...

“MUSIC THEREIN” – By Des Kelly       Another “first” for my eLanka readers, who are already aware of the fact that, if it has anything to do with good music, I would like to share it with them.  Just add the capital M to my title and therein lies this very good news. I have to admit that I have never heard of this strange, but beautiful-sounding instrument. “THEREMIN” was kindly sent out to me, by my good friend Charles Schokman, together with the interesting little story sbout this instrument, fretless, stringless, looking rather boring perhaps, until you hear this lady actually play it. ...

“THE AIR THAT WE BREATHE” – By Des Kelly     Another aspect of this “Coronavirus”, the air that we breathe. I have just received this post from our friend Charles Schokman and, although brief, makes for very interesting reading. It tells us all that we owe God heaps of money, a debt that most of us do not even think about.            This little story is something that all my readers will not forget in a hurry, and I say “thank you, Charles” for sending it out, helping everyone to appreciate the simple, yet essential facts of life, as we know it.            I also take my chance to wish ALL our readers a very Blessed Easter. Things are a little different this year, but still, GOD did Rise on Easter Sunday, something that each & every Christian should celebrate, no ...

AN INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE FOR JANUARY 2020 It is with much joy that I accepted the invitation from Mr Charles Schokman, to be here and bring a Word from the Lord on this very special occasion. Charles and his family have been closely associated with the Reformed Church in Sri Lanka and growing up I remember also the late Mr. Shelton Schokman, Snr. lighting a candle on the birthday cake of the Maligakande Church at its Centenary celebrations. Today we are here to give God thanks for the vision of Mr. Shelton Schokman, carried forward by Charles and also Fiona, through the Dematagoda Christian Guild and today through Operation Hope. It is also fitting that this service is being held in this Salvation Army Chapel, as initially there was a close partnership between the two, whilst today the legacy continues through Operation Hope in partnership with LEADS. In keeping with the ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – The best way to start the New Year – thanks to Charles Schokman   Do Not Worry (Matthew 6:25-34, NIV) 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here ...
