In 2024, Wesley College proudly commemorates 150 years of shaping young minds into men of integrity and caliber. Established on 2nd March 1874 by Rev. Daniel Henry Pereira in Pettah, Wesley College has been a cornerstone of education, transcending barriers of nationality and religion. The college’s journey began within the walls of the iconic vintage of the Methodist Church in Pettah, where its first classes were held.
Rev. Pereira’s vision and perseverance laid the foundation for Wesley College, instilling the motto “Ora et Labora” – pray and labor on, a guiding principle that has echoed through generations. Through the dedication of its founders and the unwavering support of the Methodist Church, Wesley College flourished, eventually relocating to its present site in 1905 under the leadership of Rev. Henry Highfield.
As Wesley College prepares to celebrate its Sesquicentenary, gratitude fills the hearts of alumni, faculty, and students alike. The college stands as a radiant beacon among Colombo’s leading educational institutions, offering a holistic education that nurtures not only academic excellence but also the values and skills needed for a dignified life.
The celebration of Wesley College’s 150th anniversary will be marked by a range of activities, culminating in a grand event on 11th March at Shangri La, Colombo. Renowned singer, actor, and Wesley College alum, Alston Koch, will grace the occasion with his performance, adding a touch of star-studded glamour to the festivities.
Alston Koch, known as ‘Asia’s King of Pop,’ brings his international acclaim and talent to honor his alma mater. His achievements in music, film, and advocacy reflect the spirit of excellence that Wesley College instills in its students.
