Josephians ring in the festive season The tone and spirit of the Christmas season was brought to the fore when the New South Wales Old Joes gathered for their annual Christmas Carols on 2 December at the Thornleigh Community Centre in Sydney. President Chrys Fernando, welcoming the packed house of 235 including some 40 children, reminded them of the reason for the season before the choir led the singing with the keen participation by all those present. Sri Lanka……. Whipping boys of world cricket – BY TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE   Chandika Hathurusinghe  Sri Lanka’s current form suggests that they are in the worst place since gaining Test status in 1982 and sporadic bursts such as the unlikely series win over Pakistan in the Arab Emirates throws a shadow over the actual happenings in the oil rich nation.  To even suggest that they are capable of beating anyone in the top ten at the moment is laughable let alone possible as the current series against the world’s top team India, is proving in no uncertain terms. Country Music Hall Of Fame by Desmond Kelly ‘the Star of eLanka’ Source: Alan CacckettSource: Wikipedia Source: Biography.com It is certainly not too often that a ” Musical- Melody” has been “copied” even twice, using different “lyrics”, so, especially for my readers of eLanka, I now give you a very popular Country-tune that has been copied on FOUR different occasions by very well- known vocalists who have all made this “song” a huge “hit” in their various eras of popularity. I cannot “pick” a favourite from them so hopefully, you could get each version on “you-tube” & pick your own.       “THE WILD SIDE OF LIFE” (ORIGINAL TITLE). HOW I LOVE THAT OLD MELODY THEY’RE PLAYING SEEMS I’VE HEARD IT IN SO MANY DIFFERENT SONGS IT’S MADE “STARS” OUT OF “COUNTRY MUSIC” SINGERS AND SOMEHOW IT KEEPS PLAYING ON & ON. OH, I’M THINKING TONIGHT OF MY BLUE EYES SEEMS I’VE HEARD ...

STC Sydney OBA playing host to its 9th consecutive Carol Service Click here or on the photos below to view all the photos on eLanka facebook page Graced by Sydney’s renowned church organist Godelieve Ghavalas, a hush descended at All Saints Anglican Church, North Parramatta as Avanthi Jothidas set the dulcet tone for the night with the solo of “Once In Royal”. Thus began the 9th consecutive Carol Service organized by S.Thomas’ College Sydney OBA at precisely 6.30pm on 25th Nov 2017. Kumar Rasiah who so graciously assists with proceedings each year welcomed all and articulated that this was “not a concert” rather a night where congregational participation was called upon to enhance the singing and promote community spirit. The carefully selected popular carols were lustily embraced by the ‘packed house’ only to be surpassed by the mellifluent musical renditions of the choir. Alight with communal spirit, the choir consisted ...
